Work group volunteers come to La Puente from around the state and thecountry to be in service in the San Luis Valley. Groups typically stay for either a weekend or a full-week. Activities may include cooking meals at the Shelter, sorting clothes at the thrift store, stocking shelves at the Food Bank, building and painting fences, or gleaning produce from local fields, just toname a few.
Through a week of service volunteers not only physically assist the San Luis Valley community, but they also lift the spirits of those around them, motivating others to make a difference in the world. Along with their service, work group volunteers are able to participate in other educational activities to help them better understand life in the Valley and issues faced by those they are serving. Being able to reflect on the experiences they are having allows volunteers a more complete work group experience.
La Puente’s work group schedule fills up quickly, so make sure to book your group early! Many spring break and summer trips often book up to a year in advance. |
