The Enterprise Zone

A contribution to La Puente can give you much more than the traditional tax deduction!  If you pay Colorado State taxes, a monetary gift through the Enterprise Zone can net you an additional 25% tax credit!  Its easy.

What is a tax credit?  A Colorado State tax credit is like a check payable to the Colorado Department of Revenue.  It’s as good as cash when you are paying your taxes.  Even if you never use "deductions" on your tax return, the tax credit will help you.  When the 25% Colorado State tax credit is combined with the impact of tax deductions, the results are unbelievable!  For example:

A $500 gift through the Enterprise Zone provides:

                 $125  returned to donor via EZ State tax Credit

                 $140  saved from Federal Tax deduction (28%)

                 $ 23  saved from State Tax deduction (4.8%)

Total =$288  reduced from what would have been paid in taxes!

                       Net cost for a $500 gift = $212! 

The procedure is simple.  Make your donation or your company's donation payable to "The Enterprise Zone,"  and designate “La Puente” in the lower left corner of your check.  The regulations request that the donation be at least $100. (Your entire donation is passed on to La Puente.)  We will then send you a certificate of Tax Credit you can use when filing your Colorado Income Tax return. 

We hope the Enterprise Zone Tax Credit Program will work as a further incentive to those who give financially to La Puente to encourage our work with the homeless.

La Puente is establishing an endowment account, managed separately from other donations, that will hold and invest its principle value, and contribute only the earnings for the needs of

La Puente’s work with the hungry and homeless.

Yes, we have immediate needs that are always challenging to meet.  It is impossible to meet all the needs that come through our door.  Yet an endowment gift holds a certain appeal to those who want to establish a remembrance or legacy that continues forever on behalf of the donor. 

An endowment can be contributed in the form of a gift of money, property, stocks, or other things of value. The principle value of an endowment gift remains untouched into perpetuity, and only the return on investment from the gift is directed towards sponsoring La Puente’s ongoing mission. 

If you, a loved one, or for the remembrance of a loved one would like to contribute any sized gift to an endowment, then consider any of the following:

• Write a clause in your will or trust that identifies “La Puente Home, Inc.” as a beneficiary to any portion of your estate.  This is a simple way to arrange for a significant gift in support of our mission, while leaving you in control of your assets during your lifetime.

• Consider a gift in remembrance of a loved one.  When the gift is specified to be placed in
  “La Puente’s Endowment,” it will provide income into the years ahead for the homeless and hungry in the San Luis Valley.

• Lastly, consider a gift from your own heart and resources.  Even $25 gets us started on this dream of meeting needs today and planning for the needs of the future.

La Puente is entering its 30th year of feeding the hungry and sheltering the homeless of the San Luis Valley.  We remain a volunteer driven, community supported, grassroots not-for-profit organization.  An endowment will hopefully grow to play a significant role in providing long-term stability against downturns in the economy and other changes.  Please!  If our values reflect your values, consider leaving a legacy of love that will serve those in need for the challenging years ahead.
